She'd hurry downstairs with half-dry sheets draped over her arms, ready to hang them in the coming sun.

Even in the plain, gray world we lived in, we dared to dream in technicolor.
Sunlight spilling into rooms, stars twinkling across rooftops—we'd planned this whole bright future together ...
But, I suppose I'm the only one left to realize them now.

I know, I know, the floor plan's due the day after tomorrow. But don't panic, I always outdo myself under pressure.
I may have left young, but I've still got that five-day apartment-building blood in my veins!

First thing I'd do when I got back to my apartment in Zurich was drop my suitcase by the door.
The second, a trip to the coffee machine, obviously.
Then, I'd wander over to the desk by the Corbusier window and check on some graphs ...
and before I knew it, the sun was rising again.

Growing Up in a Cold, Hard Age

Post-war life was not easy for the people of Eastern Europe, and Cornerstone's childhood was spent in a gray "tube apartment" block. The stifling social environment and far-from-prosperous material conditions gave rise to all kinds of contradictions. But for Cornerstone, sketching these seemingly cold buildings held its own particular charm. In her drawings, even the worst soundproofing and dimmest lighting could be remedied by a magical paintbrush. Perhaps one day, Cornerstone will be able to draw the most perfect communal dwelling, where friends and family can live happily together in the same neighborhood.

Pushed Far Away by the Tide

Countless young, talented people chose to leave that lifeless stretch of Eastern Europe, and Cornerstone was one of them. Unlike the architects people usually picture, either irritable or withdrawn, Cornerstone can precisely assess a building's footprint while confidently smiling through questions from clients and inspectors; she can coordinate the demands of multiple ongoing projects at a macro level, while also reliably noticing the specific struggles of the people around her. And yet, while she has built home after home for people far from her own, she has never once returned to her own homeland.

A Workaholic's Drink Recommendation

It's hard to say whether Cornerstone has any real pursuit of "quality of life." Anyone who steps into her apartment is struck by its comfort and the carefully planned beauty of its space—yet once Cornerstone buries herself in work, this warm, elegant home gradually fills with discarded drafts and clothes tossed aside at random, until there's nowhere left for a guest to even stand. And yet, even the most fastidious guest will forgive this disaster of a "construction site" after a sip of the imported coffee Cornerstone brews by hand—her pursuit of quality of life is, after all, also expressed in this carefully considered cup.
